About this product

A ring from the EOS Collection. In Greek mythology, Eos is the dawn. On a more scientific note, dawn is the time that marks the beginning of twilight before sunrise. It is recognized by the appearance of indirect sunlight being scattered in Earth's atmosphere, when the centre of the Sun's disc has reached 18° below the observer's horizon. This morning twilight period will last until sunrise, when direct sunlight outshines the diffused light.

But in any respect, dawn can certainly look amazing. I remember seeing the sun rise above the clouds while on board a plane – that was incredible. The colours cannot be described. Another event I remember, maybe even more special, was seeing the sun rise in the mountains of Tenerife after watching Halley’s comet during a night of April in 1986. The location was around 2000 metres above the sea and you couldn’t hear any sound at that time in the mountains. Truly breathtaking.

I think the colours of dawn are never quite the same. Some gemstones however capture the colours really well. To me, one of them is Iolite.

The name "iolite" comes from the Greek word for violet. It has also been called "water-sapphire" and "Vikings' Compass" because of its usefulness in determining the position of the sun on overcast days. According to legend, Vikings used iolite slices to reduce glare when checking the sun’s position.

Handmade

This ring will be handmade using traditional silversmithing techniques in Greenwich, London.
Because it is made by hand, each product is unique.

Like all my jewellery this ring is made to order in London. Please allow around two weeks for it to be made. It does not require to be hallmarked because of its weight, but if you wish, this can be arranged for an extra charge. It will also take an additional week for the process to be completed (this includes sending it to the Assay Office London, the hallmarking and the return).
